Microsoft Releases Android Version Of Outlook Groups, A Companion To Office 2016

Office 365 subscribers can also choose to download the new Office 2016 apps as part of their subscription, the company said. While this week is the first opportunity Windows users have had to upgrade to Office 2016, the Mac version of the package actually launched some two months ago via Office 365.

“Today, with the launch of Office 2016 we endeavor to provide our users with a connected set of apps and services designed for modern working and collaboration which they can access easily use across platforms and devices”, Karan Bajwa, managing director, Microsoft India, said. While Hangouts is great, it has never really reached the same wide appeal as Skype has, and now Microsoft have built it right into Office 2016, making it nice and easy to meet to discuss a certain document or spreadsheet there and then.

They say the new Office 2016 for Windows is designed to be consistent and familiar, although not identical, to the Office apps that work on other systems.

Office 365 subscription ranges from Rs 3,299 per annum (for one user) to Rs 33,911 (for Professional Plus). Microsoft said Outlook integration is coming in November.

Office 2016 is here. One example is the co-authoring feature, which is now available in Word, PowerPoint and OneNote desktop software. The team members can also chat with each other within Word or talk on Skype, which is now deeply integrated with Office. This new planning tool will be available to Office 365 users in preview in the October-December quarter.

The company has been focusing more of its engineering on the Office 365 cloud-based versions of Office, where customers can get monthly updates without installing and maintaining the software onsite.

Chief Financial Officer Amy Hood told analysts at a briefing in April that by fiscal 2018, she expects half of commercial Office customers to be using the 365 cloud version.
