Microsoft releases Office 2016 for Windows, Mac
As well as the regular apps, Microsoft has new offerings such as Office 365 Planner which lets teams of employees plan their work days. Office 365 Groups are now an integrated part of the Outlook 2016 client app and available on mobile device through the Outlook Groups app, delivering a consistent team experience across the suite.
According to a report by The Verge, the same restriction applies to Microsoft’s Windows 10 Office Mobile apps and versions for Android. It makes sense from a consumer standpoint, but it means Microsoft isn’t making as much money as it could from the widespread use of Office.
Microsoft Office 2016 has been launched by the software giant.
Office 2016 is now available and can be purchased by getting Office 365, existing Office 365 users can also avail for an upgrade to Office 2016.
For example, when you share a document in Office 2016, you will open an Outlook email that appears to have a Word file attached.
The new Office 2016 apps are available in 40 languages and require Windows 7 or later. Still, only about a quarter of commercial Office customers are using the cloud version this year, meaning Microsoft needs to keep apps in the packaged version updated and modernised.
“The way people work has changed dramatically, and that’s why Microsoft is focused on reinventing productivity and business processes for the mobile-first, cloud-first world”, said Satya Nadella, Microsoft’s chief executive.
The vendor has made a big push to claw back some of the ground it has lost to competitors like Google that have eroded Microsoft’s dominance in the productivity suite market.
Besides these features, the new Office version is sure to bring in more adaptations in terms of online plug-ins that make user presentations and documents look more interactive.
Of course, the promotion is only good for a year – users have to pay the full $70 for an Office 365 Personal subscription once their promotional period is up. OneNote also received its very own updates, and so did Mail and Calendar, which actually got another update only a few days ago.
Business customers benefit from additional security features for Office apps.
At the current preview stage, the Office 365 Import Service is free to use.
Microsoft also told that it has an inbuilt data prevention system for all the office apps which will reduce the risk of sensitive date to be leaked and also includes tools for IT administrators to helping in managing content authoring and document sharing policies.
