Modi Zuckerberg town hall Q&A 2015 live updates: Narendra Modi reveals plans
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is in Silicon Valley, and he sat down with Mark Zuckerberg on Sunday. “My dream is to become a $20 trillion economy“.
In his remarks, Nadella said Microsoft’s plan is to partner with the Indian Government to bring in low-priced broadband connectivity to 500,000 villages in India. We have regained the lost confidence.
“We are proud of what is happening in India and share Prime Minister’s vision of digital India“, he said.
He identified the service sector to drive growth. Countries have money but do not know where to invest.
“Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, they are the new neighbourhoods of our new world“, Modi said at the event.
“I hope that the inspiration you got in India will help you be the voice of millions of people…”
India will play a big part in driving technology forward in the future, Google CEO Sunder Pichai said today and praised PM Modi for accelerating India’s effort to become the next global hot bed of innovation and entrepreneurship. Following an hour long marathon photo session with some 800 Indian-Americans from across the country, Modi said, I will get a chance to address you tomorrow. “I wished their leader, a happy birthday on social media”.
The next step for social media: government. We offer demographic dividend, democracy and demand…3D. “Let a businessman run it”, he said. The two delegations submitted memorandums to the Prime Minister. “It’s not just the case with Narendra Modi, many mothers in India sacrifice their entire lives for their children”, Modi said.
The PM’s mother Hiraben, 95, lives in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. “This is making governance easy, effective, economical and transparent”, Modi said. “We have brought in a new level of confidence”, he added.
Much of his visit, which began Saturday, has also focused on connecting with the Indian diaspora community in Silicon Valley.
“It has the potential to uplift the whole of society in India”.
“India is very important to the history of our company”, Zuckerberg said. US tech interests, however, would like to see Modi trim what they view as bureaucratic and financial restrictions on investment there. We have opened 18 crore accounts in the first 100 days of tenure. Facebook has also been offering free basic Internet services in India.
“I went, and travelled for nearly a month”, Zuckerberg recounted. Social media did that for me.
Sandwiched between the two community events would be Modi’s visits to the campuses of Tesla Motors, Facebook and Google where he would hold meetings with the who’s who of Silicon Valley – ranging from Apple CEO Tim Cook to Satya Nadella of Microsoft, Sundar Pichai of Google, Shantanu Narayen of Adobe, and Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg.
