Cool Pope Features On New Prog-rock Album
The album is now available for pre-order in the iTunes store, but papal prog-rock fans won’t get to hear it until it’s released on November 27.
It is not the first time a pope has released a recording. “Forward!”, on their website today.
The track Wake Up! Go! Go!
European music label Believe Digital said on Friday the album “Pope Francis: Wake Up!” combines extracts of 11 of Pope Francis’ public speeches in Spanish, Italian, Portuguese and English, and Christian hymns reworked by contemporary musicians.
A composite of uplifting riffs, gentle build-ups, and cool synths reminiscent of “Friday Night Lights” band Explosions in the Sky, the first single from “Wake Up!” entitled “Wake Up! Go! Go!”
Having lectured world leaders about greed and told USA politicians they must bridge their differences, Pope Francis has now solved an even trickier problem – coming up with the ideal Christmas gift for the person who has everything. The album, first announced by Rolling Stone, pairs some of the pontiff’s speeches in various languages with music ranging from pop-rock to Gregorian chants. For the album, the Pope’s powerful messages were placed in the musical hands of Wake Up!’s producer and artistic director Don Giulio Neroni.
“I tried to be strongly faithful to the pastoral and personality of Pope Francis: the Pope of dialogue, open doors, hospitality”, he was quoted as saying.
Sources have revealed that a portion of the albums” proceeds would be donated to “a support fund for refugees’.
