What we learned from the Pope’s politically-charged speech to Congress

He emphasized on the importance of embracing immigrants as the world is facing a refugee crisis with a magnitude that has never been seen since World War II noting that the majority travel to the U.S.in search of a better lives. In the same address, the pontiff renewed his call for ending the death penalty, and for better treatment of the poor and disadvantaged.
The pope’s emphasis on helping the neediest continued when he greeted parishioners and homeless people at St. Patrick Church. “Part of this great effort is the creation and redistribution of wealth”. He warned against the “simplistic reductionism which sees only good or evil; or, if you will, the righteous and sinners”.
A frequent critic of the damage caused to the environment by capitalism’s excesses, the pope said Congress has an important role to play to “avert the most serious effects of the environmental deterioration caused by human activity”.
