Utah Bamboozles Oregon With ideal Fake Punt Return Touchdown
“I didn’t make many mistakes this week – only one bogey all week”.
The teams ventured out into the dark of the evening, though, moving in decidedly different directions.

“We make constant changes, there’s constant evolution when things are going great”. That’s not happening to Alabama anytime soon.
The Ducks, 2-2 after a 62-20 loss Saturday night at home to Utah, share the 24th spot with California in the coaches poll.
There were those who figured 18th-ranked Utah could give 13th-ranked Oregon all it could handle in a matchup of two of the Pac-12’s premier teams. The game doesn’t stop for you while you reassess.
Regardless of whether they get the spotlight, the Hoosiers’ fast start is helping Ohio State. Will it be Jeff Lockie? Up 34-13, they scored on a halfback pass. It ran a devilish halfback option on an opportunistic first down and a delicious decoy on a punt return on a freshly rattled opponent. His trickery allowed Utah’s Boobie Hobbs to field the punt all the way over near the right sideline and scamper 69 yards down the sideline for the touchdown. Opponents are averaging 40.8 points and 301.5 passing yards. Wilson added 100 yards on six carries.
Oregon ranks 89th in Def. S&P+.
Or maybe the Ducks dynasty is starting to crumble for real this time, unlike all those other times, such as previous year when Arizona beat Oregon in a second consecutive game.
His words set the Guinness World Record for understatement, like Neil Armstrong landing on the moon and saying, “We made good time.”. But it wasn’t all about the highly regarded defense of Utah. The Ducks’ scoring defense was at 104th in the country. The Ducks’ D was rarely elite, but it was nearly always good: 19th in Def. S&P+ in 2007, 15th in 2009, 29th in 2010, 23rd in 2012. But it was unclear that Utah could take advantage.
Oregon has had double-digit victories in each of the past seven seasons, has twice played in the national championship game in the past five years and has carried the flag for the Pac-10/12 in the post-Pete Carroll era at USC.
The two teams that have beaten the Ducks this year are both in this week’s top 10. Oregon sophomore CB Chris Seisay was not in uniform for the second week in a row because of a foot injury.
But there doesn’t seem to be a panic button inside the fancy new digs Mark Helfrich and the Ducks moved into before the 2013 season. “We’ve got a bunch of work to do”.
We’re not giving Helfrich a pass, however.
Vernon Adams Jr. was yanked off the stage after completing only two passes for 26 yards and a touchdown. After ranking a meager 75th in Adj. Sack Rate last season, they have fallen to 116th. DeForest Bucknerhad six tackles and two quarterback hurries.
The choices don’t get any easier. But at least the schedule eases up for now.
Colorado scored 21 first-quarter points and never looked back in a out-of-conference 48-0 win over Nicholls State.

Royce Freeman ran for 77 yards as Oregon finished with 400 yards of offense. Our team played well and we lost a close one.
Utah’s crime was in fact absolutely, perfectly, Oregon-like from the Ducks.
Prior to leaving the stadium, Covey acknowledged that the unexpectedly lopsided win over Oregon was surreal.
This year, the Ducks rank 84th. Adams relies on his mobility far more often than Marcus Mariota did, but no one was going to be able to replace the Heisman victor. Everything is together, every single thing, the highs and the lows. Originally considered a potential defensive end, Repp could figure into Utah’s plans more prominently down the road if his debut is any indication. The Ducks are not elite on offense, and with this D, that’s a bad combination. Utah showed that with a decent offense and a strong defense, they have what it takes to compete with the top teams in the conference. Now’s the chance to strike Oregon down. And if you didn’t turn the game off before then, well, you certainly weren’t going to after, because what else could this game possibly have in store?
