Check out the Tesla Model X electric sports-utility vehicle
“If Tesla’s going to be a more significant player, they need more products, and SUVs are what the market is demanding”, NBC quotes AutoTrader.com senior analyst Michelle Krebs.
Every Model X comes standard with Active Safety features, which include automatic emergency braking that’s engaged when radar and ultrasonic sensors sense a potential collision.
There are still 20,000 customers on Tesla’s waiting list for the Model X. The electric vehicle maker, however, still did not reveal the next schedule for delivery of orders, Knox News reports.
And if the exterior doesn’t impress you, the interior sure will. The Tesla Model X is an SUV that can fit up to seven passengers and their entire luggage.
The SUV goes from zero to 60 miles per hour in 3.2 seconds with the “Ludicrous Speed” upgrade on the performance model.
Model X also features “Falcon Wings”, created to “allow easy access to second and third row seats from any parking space”.
CNET editor-at-large Tim Stevens was one of the first to test-drive the new SUV, and discussed a few of its special features on “CBS This Morning”. “Bioweapon defense mode is there”, said Mr Musk, in the menu that drivers normally use to control the air conditioning unit.
And finally, the Model X is the world’s first tow-capable electric auto, though we imagine that towing heavy objects will reduce both its acceleration speed and driving range.
The company claims the Model X carries a range of 250 miles on a charge.
Elon Musk, Tesla’s founder, said in a tweet that the cost of the Model X is $5000 (£3295) more than the Model S, while he also confirmed that lower cost versions would come later. With an exotic design and numerous advanced technologies, Tesla is looking to carry on the momentum from the success of its smaller sibling, the Model S.
Shoppers can put down $5,000 on Tesla’s website to reserve an X when they start rolling out. Musk confirmed that Tesla wants to reach out to the masses and launch its Model 3 “electric vehicle for the people” at US$35,000 in 2017.
