Apple rolls out its music service in China

With Apple launching the three new services in China today, the company’s expansion plan to more areas will surely help Apple generate a new market for its Apple Music service and Beats 1 radio.

“For the first time, customers in China will have access to Apple’s entertainment ecosystem with music, movies and books right at their fingertips”, said Apple.

In the For You tab, Apple will give you musical recommendations, be they artists, albums or playlists, based on the choices you made during setup, as well as your listening history. A simple music app shouldn’t be laggy even on old hardware. Being able to stretch the lifespan of these devices is both economically and environmentally smart but it also handcuffs us to Cupertino: we share apps, photos, films, Global Positioning System coordinates, calendars, storage, and now, streaming music, all served up by Apple. You get an indication of this by playlists created by different Apple Music genre specialists.

In a study last month by researcher Musicwatch, 11 per cent of people who owned an Apple mobile device in the U.S. said they were using Apple Music. But Apple Music isn’t good enough to make me switch from Spotify at least not yet.
