Rand Paul: Ted Cruz ‘is pretty much done’
Cruz yielded the floor but not before he was able to take one more shot at Republican leadership.
Paul also has been getting attention for poking at perceived top rival for roughly libertarian-ish Republican primary voters, Texas Sen.
Presidential contender and U.S. Sen.
Cruz served in that position for six months, according to his online LinkedIn. Cruz thanked Paul for his defense of liberty and acknowledged that they didn’t completely agree on the issue.
Asked whether Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) had “let him down”, Paul said instead that “I would say we have disagreements on tactics”.
“Speaker Boehner faced a conundrum”, Cruz said of Boehner’s abrupt decision to step down. Earlier this summer, Cruz accused McConnell of lying about a vote on the Export-Import Bank.
Paul went off on Cruz during a Fox News Radio interview on Tuesday, saying Cruz can’t get anything done because he’s too busy calling people names in the Senate. “I approach things a little different”. “I am still just as hardcore in saying what we are doing is wrong, I just chose not to call people liars on the Senate floor and it’s just a matter of different perspectives on how best to get to the end result”. McConnell reciprocated the favor by endorsing Paul’s presidential bid this year. “But I have no intention of responding in kind to Rand’s attacks”. Look, I think most Americans could care less about a bunch of politicians in Washington bickering like schoolchildren.
Cruz claims allegiance to Ronald Reagan’s famed 11 Commandment about not speaking ill of fellow Republicans, and won’t cock an eyebrow as Trump attacks the rest of the 2016 Republican field with insults that would embarrass a mature sixth-grader and offers decidedly non-conservative policy prescriptions. “I will not throw rocks”. Mike Lee (R-Utah) the only senator to back him.
Now he’s playing lickspittle to Donald Trump, a candidate without a single conservative or even serious political principle, in the hope of grasping a few crumbs of support from Big Daddy’s table when the notorious Internet troll tires of pretending to run for national office. Along the way, Cruz made several pop culture references – the Sunday night lunar eclipse, the movie “The Terminator” and the novel “Brave New World” – not an altogether unimaginable departure from his marathon 2013 speech two years ago which included a reading of “Green Eggs and Ham”.
