Stephen Colbert Interviews Pewdiepie, Nails It
Freeman played God in Bruce Almighty, while Murray is doing the same, kind of, in his role as director of No Man’s Sky.
Late Show host Stephen Colbert welcomed YouTube superstar Felix “PewDiePie” Kjellberg on Thursday. One of his late night competitors, Jimmy Kimmel, recently came under fire for belittling YouTube’s Let’s Play community (of which PewDiePie is a member) during a segment on his show.
“I want to thank the internet for allowing their emperor to be here for the evening”, Colbert jokingly told his audience before introducing his guest, and the description is quite apt.
Compared to Kimmel, Colbert brought a completely different attitude to his discussion of Let’s Play videos. “That runs on coal that your grandparents invented”. This of course is not uncommon for people who are as young as Pewdiepie, but it was refreshing to acknowledge this reality without berating it. Colbert, on the other hand, not only did his homework, but also sounded like he had respect for YouTubers and what they do.
Colbert also gave props to Pewdiepie’s hugesuccess. To balance out all the prestige pictures, Hanks swung by Colbert for six minutes of pure dopiness. The answers, in case you were wondering, are “Spooky skeletons”, “He’s Santa on other planets”, and “An action-thriller about secret service dogs that protect the President’s dog”. Probably this best segment from the interview was where PewDiePie taught Stephen a fewof the Swedish swear words he has been known to use in his own videos.
