Cabinet focus on jobs, trade deal
I appreciated Ambassador Darci Vetter, Third District native and Chief Agricultural Negotiator in the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative, joining us to deliver the keynote address on how trade agreements can level the playing field for producers in Nebraska and across the United States.
“If the presence of the United States and Japan in the Asia-Pacific region is enhanced through the TPP, it will be able to contain China’s moves to pursue hegemonic influence in the region”, it said.
Under recently enacted Trade Promotion Authority, Congress must vote to approve the pact after an administration-authored bill has been introduced.
The Trans-Pacific Partnership has the OK from a dozen countries, but not everyone is convinced the new trade deal is the right thing for Canada.
Canada Trade Minister Ed Fast called the deal “truly transformational, saying: “The magnitude and importance of rules for 21st century issues can’t be underscored enough”. The other countries are Australia, Brunei, Canada, Chile, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore and Vietnam.
Environmental group, Friends of the Earth, said the TPP favours corporate investments over the planet.
“We are satisfied with the result”.

“The TPP has also been deliberately created to be more inclusive, so that small and medium-sized enterprises can take full advantage of its benefits”, he added.
“The market covering the TPP countries is very important for CAE’s business and we therefore applaud the signature of the TPP”, said Marc Parent, President and Chief Executive Officer of CAE.
The accord must still must be signed and ratified by the respective countries, including Australia.

After five years of negotiation, the 12-nation Trans-Pacific Partnership was finalised overnight to establish the world’s largest trade deal.
“We are definitely going to see plant closures in the first year of TPP”, said Stanford, who says auto parts plants and traditional assembly plants will be shuttered. The attractive scenery of the countryside, home towns with traditional culture where people help each other, the national character we are proud of will continue to be protected.
Firstly, Kenningham points out that there is usually a significant lag time between when a free trade deal is announced and actual implementation by the U.S. government.
