Israel bars Palestinians from Jerusalem’s Old City

A deadly terror attack in Jerusalem’s Old City leaves two Israelis dead.

The Palestinian attacker was then shot and killed by an Israeli police officer who rushed to the scene.

Police spokesperson Micky Rosenfeld said the Palestinian was shot after the knife attack in Jerusalem’s old city which also left at least two others injured, including a 2-year-old baby.

The most recent round of violence on the Temple Mount began in July, when masked Arabs used the al-Aqsa Mosque to amass stones, Molotov cocktails and other explosives with the intent of attacking Israeli police and Jewish worshipers ascending the holy site.

The victims are said to be from an ultra-Orthodox Jewish family who were walking to the Western Wall.

The image of Palestinians hurling stones and Molotov cocktails at Israeli forces “has dealt a blow to the occupier”, he said.

His remarks came after Islamic Jihad issued a statement that hailed the attack and said it was in response to Israeli “terrorist crimes” against Palestinians.

Al-Ayyam reported in this regard that settlers continued their attacks against Palestinians as Israeli occupation forces searched for the suspected Palestinian gunmen following the killing of the settler couple near the Nablus village of Beit Furik. “There’s grave concern that any incident, even the smallest one, could set the whole area on fire”, the anonymous official said. “Our people will revolt”.

The Israel military said troops operated in thearea but would not elaborate further. Israel denies having any plans to change the status quo.
