This Reporter Took a Stun Grenade to the Face, Then Kept Reporting

Israeli troops wounded Al Mayadeen journalist Hanaa Mahameed Sunday, whereas she was trying to report on the killing of a Palestine youth Fadi Alloun by Isreali forces.

More amazingly, after receiving medical treatment for burns on her face, Mahameed went back on air, showing the world the true strength of the Palestinian people. Hence why Mahameed returned to work a few hours later to continue reporting on the civil unrest, albeit from a safer distance.

Police fired the projectile grenade aiming for demonstrators, but they hit the journalist instead. Tensions subsequently mounted, and Israeli police forces were attempting to detain Alloun’s father when Mahameed was hit in the face.

“Riot dispersal means [were used on demonstrators]” and “whoever is present with law-breaking rioters risks getting injured”, Luba Samri, Israeli police spokeswoman, told the Associated Press.

Hours before Alloun was said to stab a 15-year-old Israeli boy, another Palestinian teenager stabbed two Israelis to death in Jerusalem’s Old City and wounded a woman and a toddler, before he too was shot dead by an Israeli police officer.

A few 300,000 Palestinians who live in the Jerusalem are usually free to enter the Old City in the east of the town, where major Muslim, Christian and Jewish holy sites are located. According to The Independent, Alloun had written on his Facebook page: “Either martyrdom or victory”.
