Apple’s iPod Touch update brings faster chip, better cameras
The iPod was Apple’s first successful foray beyond personal computers.
Apple took down its Apple Store for a few hours, bringing it back up to unveil some new features and functions for the iPod Touch.
The scores in that Geekbench run suggest that the slowed-down A8 is roughly equivalent to the 1.3GHz Apple A7 chip in the iPhone 5S, which if accurate still represents a substantial improvement over the A5 in the fifth-generation Touch (Primate Labs’ John Poole told us that he believes the listed clock speed to be accurate). The 8MP camera and A8 processor in the iPod touch is more than welcome, but it’s still far from being on par with the iPhone.
The new iPod touch starts at $249 for the 16GB model. All of these are now available today on the Apple Store.
The radio station will remain free, even for users who do not pay the $9.99 a month to stream artists, and Apple has made the service integral to its latest operating system on iPhones.
When the iPod touch was announced this morning, I had an interesting exchange on Twitter with someone who wondered about the price disparity between the new iPod touch and the iPhone.
The new iPod nanos got nothing like the special treatment Apple once gave to them.
Looking at the press images, the Touch probably won’t have a TouchID sensor (not that you’d need one anyway), but it seems like the rounded rectangle inside home button will be the same color as your iPod.
Lack of storage space won’t hassle you anymore as a very big 128GB is now available for the product.
iPod 6 comes pre-installed with iOS 8.4, keep this firmware file if you intend to jailbreak your 2015 iPod using TaiG or Pangu jailbreak tools.
This is the trick with guessing what Apple products “should” cost. The Touch is all about getting the monthly subscription payments to get to the music.
The starting price remains at $199. The iPhone Touch still won’t have cellular data connectivity.
Last week, reports surfaced claiming Apple would unveil a new line of media players.
Aledclar: “Apple pretty much future proofed the iPod touch other than the RAM”. But, the iPad Mini 2 is still a good and capable gaming device. “Those colors are nice too!”
