Apple launches latest iPod touch
Apple has, indeed, released a fully updated 2015 iPod touch, as well as iPod nano and shuffle models wearing fresh colors.
Apple also gave all of its iPods new colors – blue, pink, silver, gold and space gray.
With tech giant Apple having launched its updated iPod media player lineup this week, Forbes’ Rex Santus has revealed some noteworthy information about the updated iPods.
The iPod was credited with revolutionising the portable music player market following its launch in 2001, shifting more than 250 million units worldwide by 2012, but sales have fallen as consumers increasingly store and listen to music through their smartphones over the separate device.
The iPod Touch finally got a much-needed upgrade on Wednesday, its first upgrade in almost three years. The new Apple-designed A8 chip rocks with 10 times faster graphics performance for a more immersive gaming experience, and even better fitness tracking with the M8 motion coprocessor.
Since it runs iOS 8, iPod touch customers can access Apple Music, the company’s new streaming music service.
Apple is introducing a new, 399 USA dollars (£257) model with 128 gigabytes, matching the iPhone’s maximum capacity.
All of the iPod touch units will still have a 4-inch retina display.
Users will also be able to send unlimited voice and video text messages through iMessage over wi-fi.
Still, it’s nice to see Apple doing something with its iPod range for a change, but The Verge writes it’s unlikely their efforts will result in another best-seller.
The iPod touch would likely appeal to families that wanted to let children connect with music, games and other online content using mobile devices but be spared costly telecom service bills. The iPod Nano still sports an iOS 6-style interface, which, according to industry sources, is due to the fact that everyone who was previously working on the iPod software team is now working on the Apple Watch.
