Apple updates iPod Touch for first time in three years
As the Sydney Morning Herald reports, Apple unveiled the new iPod Touch this morning. This new ipod touch is faster than all precious gens and it is expected to give iPhone 6 some real competition.
The camera on the latest iPod Touch will rival the camera in the iPhone 6. This is very important to budget-conscious consumers and also to folks that have kids. No touch ID fingerprint sensor, no improvements in screen, but we suppose the new power specs do the job for those looking for the most budget iOS device. They also confirm that the A8 includes 1GB of RAM, the same amount as the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus.
It’s all about music – Apple Music – and getting users signed up to the subscription service.
Finally, the iPod’s WiFi speeds have increased.
With the success of the iPhone and iPad many question why Apple still cares about the iPod. Probably within the next couple of years.
Apple first launched the iPod Touch in 2007.
Lack of storage space won’t hassle you anymore as a huge 128GB is now available for the product. Owners of older Touch models can manually upgrade the operating system for Apple Music. I use it mainly for a few useful apps and as an e-reader in certain situations. The 16GB base model is available for $199 and 32 GB model has been priced at $249.
Did you want access to Apple Music from your iPod?
But what about a larger screen iPod touch?
Apple are hoping the new Touch will get that section of the market into Apple Music, which comes pre-installed on the device and according to Business Insider, will soon allow users to control an offline library of up to 100,000 songs. Neither model can run Apple Music or the various iPhone apps.
This is the trick with guessing what Apple products “should” cost.
Don’t let the small 4-inch Retina display with 1136 x640 resolution fool you into thinking that this device is inferior to the iPhones. And, of course, all of that was a bunch of baloney as we can see from today’s update. As demand has slowed, so has Apple’s updates to the iPod: Apple no longer updates its iPods annually like it usually does with its top sellers. It’s huge success actually led to the iPhone. Unless you buy an iPod touch, you’re out of luck.
Chronixx: “A8 chip huh? MAYBE it will get one last revision after that, but it’s hard to imagine it going beyond that”.
We’re lucky enough the iPod touch has the same chip as the fastest iPhone without a price hike (that doesn’t usually happen).
There’s a market there for kids where it’s still an expensive toy, but much cheaper than any other Apple iOS item. Digging the new back too without the camera loop.
