Woman pulled from burning auto at SW Portland Chevron
A college student rescued a woman trapped in A burning auto at a Chevron gas station in Beaverton, Oregon while bystanders watched the fire and took video with their phone.
While the auto burned, people stopped to take pictures and video with their phones, but Phillipe and Raphael were two of only one or two others to put down their phones and rush to help.
Officials say a 78-year-old woman accidentally accelerated in reverse instead of applying the brakes when she crashed into a gas pump.
Phillipe was treated for cuts on his hand.
As people stood by taking video of her trapped inside the nearly fully engulfed vehicle, Bittar decided to risk his life, breaking a window to pull the woman out.
“There was like six bystanders just videotaping, like, ‘Oh man she needs to get some help.'”
.
Reiterated the teen: ‘I told her hey I’m going to pull you out, get away from the window because I have to break it and she’s like okay.’. The 19-year-old Phillipe told KOIN 6 News, he punched through the window and lifted her to safety. Then, they saw a woman inside the burning auto.
Medic crews arrived on the scene and took the woman to a local hospital.
And now, Bittar is being called a hero.
Authorities are still investigating what caused the woman to hit the gas pump.
Fire crews later said in a statement that Bittar’s actions were nothing short of “heroic”. The spokesperson stated that had Bittar not pulled the woman out of the auto, she most likely would not have survived. She suffered from smoke inhalation, but otherwise is in good condition – and so is the man who saved her life.
This might make me a really awful person, but I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t be rescuing This woman, but I also wouldn’t be filming the whole thing.
