Donald Trump’s campaign for the 2016 GOPpresidential nomination has sparked yet another firestorm with his recent comments about Senator John McCain.
“Hey, Matt. Savannah started it off by saying Isaid he wasn’t a war hero. I think that’s a pretty inflammatory statement for somebody who is trying to be the commander-in-chief of the United States military”. “But I think he may owe an apology to the families of those who have sacrificed in conflict”, he added. “The proudest times of their lives was serving in the business of heroes and those people are the folks he need to apologize to”. Trump has been trying to turn the conversation on McCain’s record on veteran care, telling the Today Show this morning, “He’s done a disgusting job for the vets”.
How long the Trump surge lasts is an open question; this poll was conducted Thursday through Sunday, mostly before his controversial criticism Saturday of Sen.
“For me to look back in anger at anyone is nonproductive”, he said. But the occasionally fiery McCain had a calm demeanour, saying simply: “I am not a hero“.
Trump insisted in a telephone interview with anchor Matt Lauer that he had said “four times” that he respected those captured in war.
Trump’s fellow republicans say he was questioning the heroism of a man who spent six years as a prisoner of war and for that they’re calling for him to drop out of the race. “So I have worked ever since to try and heal those wounds”.
Donald Trump called the Department of Veterans Affairs a “scandalous, corrupt organization”, and said the media “has done a false number, as usual”. John McCain (R-Arizona) have landed him in hot water with members of his own party. “I have hundreds of town hall meetings all over Arizona and I’m called insane by the people who come there – I thought it was a term of endearment”, he chuckled. “I can tell youthey are just wonderful – better than my generation”, he said. On Twitter, Jeb Bush, Marco Rubio, Scott Walker, Chris Christie and Bobby Jindal were just some of the presidential candidates criticizing Trump.
Until now, Republicans have been largely cautious in their handling of Trump and his provocations.
