Republican Congressman Steve King says he suspects it is “not in the DNA” of Republicanpresidential candidate Donald Trump to apologize – and King suggests that could doom Trump’s campaign.
Pollsters interviewed respondents Thursday through Sunday; late Saturday, some Republicans began calling for Trump’s exit from the race after hiscomments about McCain being “captured” during his service in Vietnam. Maybe Bush will come out of this better than I think.
“Those are the people he should apologize to”, McCain said on MSNBC’s Morning Joe on Monday. The anchor told Trump the show actually aired the full context of his remarks. Spokesman Josh Earnest said President Barack Obama continues to have political differences with the man he defeated in the 2008 election, “but those debates have not reduced his appreciation for Senator McCain’s remarkable service to the country”. The next sentence was, ‘He is a war hero.’ I said that. He is a war hero [only] because he was captured.
Sen McCain, a former Navy fighter pilot, was imprisoned and tortured in a Hanoi prison for five years. He added that it was “the great honour of my life to serve in the company of heroes”.
“A nation without borders is not a nation at all but John McCain has not been able to figure that out”, Trump said. And that means Republicans may have him around for a lot longer than some party leaders would like.
The testy interview continued, as Trump shot back at the anchors. “But we don’t talk about peoplewho weren’t captured, and that’s what I was trying to refer to”.
Lauer asked if the statement was about “personal resentment you have for John McCain and perhaps he has for you“.
The scariest thing about Forrest Trump – excepting maybe his mad orangutan haircut – is that he really seems to believe the nonsense he spews.
During his presidential kickoff speech, Trump said Mexican immigrants are “bringing drugs, they’re bringing crime, they’re rapists and some, I assume, are good people”. He said his views are not those of a Naval officer or the academy, where he serves as an instructor, just as a private citizen and son.
