McCain urges Trump to apologize to US military families
To him, Trump’s sentiment is more than just questioning McCain’s heroism, but a “dumb” remark that shows his own lack of military experience or understanding.
Trump, the billionaire real estate developer and TV personality, has the Republican Party over a barrel. “I like people that weren’t captured, OK?”
First, Trump said: “He’s not a war hero”.
Donald Trump was wrong to question John McCain’s status as a Vietnam War hero. Then he corrected himself saying “he is a war hero”. He’s a war hero because he was captured. I like people that weren’t captured, OK? Over the weekend, Trump criticized McCain for not doing enough to help war veterans and questioned whether McCain should be considered a war hero. I kept waiting for McCain to say something about Obama’s lacking character. The occasionally fiery McCain had a calm demeanour, saying simply: “I am not a hero”.
Those who serve in the military deserve respect from all Americans, especially from those who want to be commander in chief. “I was beaten for what I believed in”, said Capt. Robinson. White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest asserted veterans “are entitled to an apology”.
US Secretary of State John Kerry, a Democrat who also served during the Vietnam War, lashed out at the comment, as did former presidential candidate Mitt Romney, a Republican.
Donald Trump received the most support among Republican presidential candidate in an ABC News/Washington Post poll released Monday, the third consecutive survey showing the controversial and outspoken businessman in the lead.
“Somehow to denigrate that in any way is offensive, I think, to most of our veterans”.
The poll found that Trump was second in Iowa only to Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, who had 22 percent. In announcing his presidential bid, Trump labeled Mexican immigrants as rapists, criminals and “people that have lots of problems.”
“It’s not just absurd”, said Florida Senator Marco Rubio.
Like Trump, McCarthy was a bully, who was only stopped when he was asked, at a hearing by a Joe Welch of Boston representing a Boston attorney of being a communist “have you no sense of decency?” Criticism from the media and the likes of Graham and Branstad may help Trump muster support from anti-establishment voters even if his poll numbers end up taking a hit.
“I don’t think he has to, my personal opinion”, Baginski said.
