Amy Schumer Strikes Back at Radio Host’s “Skanky” Comment
Earlier this week on Wednesday, Matt Tilley, a DJ on Australia’s KIIS 101.1 FM, was interviewing Amy Schumer about her character in Trainwreck when he called the character “skanky”. Prior to his name-calling, the interview was actually going pretty well, but he took a wrong turn and it only got more awkward from there. If it wasn’t obvious, dropping the word “skanky” around a comedian who’s spent her career championing gender equality by confronting pejorative labels, like “skanky”, will earn you an eternal stay on her shit-list.
An unimpressed Schumer quickly turned the joke on him saying he was thinking about his mother.
Schumer: We do! What made you think about your mom?
“Come on, that’s the character in the movie”, he said. “I’m not trying to offend you”, Tilley added, eliciting a puzzled did-you-really-just-f***ing-say-that look from Schumer. “That’s a rude question”, she quipped. New York Senator Chuck Schumer is one of Amy’s cousins on her father’s side.
He said in a statement, “It was as great as you might imagine and not at all disappointing”. “I think the point is that she realizes she’s hurting herself and the people around her”. “Would you rather do that [acting] and have stand-up as fun?” he asked.
Schumer: Whatever you’re trying to do, you are.
