The latest operating system iteration from the Redmond-based company already looks like a promising upgrade for all eligible users, and Microsoft has ensured that anyone can download and install it without any issue with the release of a free upgrade utility, the Media Creation Tool.
PC users across the UK stayed awake to wait for the updated operating system as the firm staggered its release, allowing some customers who pre-registered to get access before others.
For the first year, Windows 10 will be available as a free upgrade to users now running on Windows 7.8 and 8.1.
Windows 10 can run across PCs, tablets and smartphones and features include a new search function, faster browsing, personalised gaming and an easier interface. They also have several built-in apps added to Windows 10, including Photos, Maps, and Movies & TV.
In effect this mainly consisted of removing the Start button and imposing the Windows Phone Metro UI on desktop users, which didn’t go down well.
While the new OS balances the enhancements of Windows 8 with the familiarity of users with Windows 7, the software giant is already preparing a major update by October.
Windows 10 won’t make people give up their hand-held gadgets, but it’s part of Nadella’s strategy to reposition Microsoft for a world where people use multiple devices. With phones and tablets doing so numerous jobs for which you once needed a desktop machine, it is clear that Windows isn’t as important as it once was.
I’m just a Microsoft fan so see the Windows 10 update and all that. Those who don’t have a PC running these previous versions of Windows will get the chance to buy Windows 10 starting at $99. In most cases, you can continue to upgrade to Windows 10 and find a workaround for the problem in the Windows Store. Although Windows 10 has a rollback feature of its own, the option expires after one month.
