Sushma Swaraj directs envoy to meet stranded Indian girl in Pakistan
“We have shown her writings to people but nothing has come out of it. She copies Hindi words from magazines”, Faisal said.
A social worker Ansar Burney has been searching for the girl’s parents for the past 15 years and Sushma surprisingly responded in Twitter saying “I have asked Indian High Commissioner to Pakistan Dr TCA Raghavan to go to Karachi with Mrs Raghavan and meet this girl”.
Geeta was nine when she crossed into Pakistan territory.
This seems similar to the fictional tale of Bollywood blockbuster “Bajrangi Bhaijaan” starred by Salman Khan.
Geeta’s inability to communicate caused a lot of frustration and she was moved from one welfare home to another as she often tried to escape and quarreled with staff, Bilquis said. Faisal Eidhi wants the girl to marry a Hindu boy in Pakistan, since relocating her family in India is seemingly impossible.
Though she has managed to recognise the Indian map on a mobile phone, she has not been successful in conveying any other information to the Edhi staff. Sobbing silently, she frantically points first at Jharkhand and then Telangana, trying hard to tell something of her past.
Further, a representative of the Indian High Commission in Islamabad, Balveer, called The Express Tribune to inquire about the girl.
While Salman Khan’s latest film is creating waves of success across India and Pakistan, a real life Bajrangi Bhaijaan story has now arrested the attention of the Indian government as a speech-impaired woman has been stuck in Pakistan for over 14 years since she accidentally crossed over as a child. “Ansar Burney Trust is endeavouring to find her family for last three years”. An Indian man undertakes the task and reunites her with her family in Pakistan. “I have circulated her videos and pictures in India”. Amongst Geeta’s writings, the numbers “193” make a frequent appearance.
The development came in view of a fresh campaign launched by some Pakistani activists to unite the hearing and speech impaired Indian woman, who is now 23 years old and stranded in the neighbouring country for at least 15 years. Geeta is also known to write “193” repeatedly; officials say it could be her house number. Only this is a tale of an Indian girl in Pakistan.
