Kawhi Leonard wants to a trade from Spurs
An ESPN report in May said the Spurs were anxious Leonard’s group – led by uncle Dennis Robertson and agent Mitch Frankel – intentionally sought to sabotage the team’s relationship with Leonard in hopes of getting him traded to a larger market. This would also allow them to confirm that this is what Leonard truly wants (and not just the people in his inner circle).
A few obstacles stand in the way of Cleveland pulling off a deal for Leonard. While Los Angeles is preferred is destination as Leonard himself grew up in California, one team tried to trade for him back in February and that team was the Boston Celtics. The source suggested that the Spurs’ decision to make public that Leonard was cleared to play essentially “hung him out to dry”.
Kawhi Leonard reportedly no longer wants to play for the San Antonio Spurs after the two sides had a falling-out over injury management.
Cleveland has made calls to the San Antonio Spurs about Leonard but I don’t know if it will be enough.
With two days remaining until the 2018 NBA Draft, rumors are continuing to swirl regarding a potential Kawhi Leonard trade from the San Antonio Spurs.
There is also the belief that the Lakers dealing for Leonard would also help bring in LeBron James and Paul George to create another ‘Superteam’. However, Leonard can openly refuse to sign an extension with the team he is traded to, which would likely scare franchises off. He wants the Lakers, but the Clippers are expected to be involved in the rumors as well.
Still two weeks out from the start of free agency, the recent news surrounding Kawhi Leonard has already sent the National Basketball Association world into a tailspin.
Thankfully for the Knicks, they’re one of the teams on the radar for the former Finals MVP and two-time Defensive Player of the Year.
The Cavaliers were not the most talented team this past year, but if the Spurs believe LeBron’s teammates were overshadowed by him, they may look to trade Kawhi out of the Western Conference.
