Omar Abdullah expresses concern over Udhampur attack
The capture of a self-confessed Pakistani militant in Udhampur today has thrust the Narendra Modi government into a bind over whether to pursue talks between Indian and Pakistani national security advisers later this month, a decision complicated by a ticking public perception bomb.
Azad, a former J&K Chief Minister, said Pakistan now stands completely exposed.
Instead, India keeps on committing gross violations of 2003 Ceasefire Accord on LoC and Working Boundary through unprovoked firing and other actions, including whipping up terrorism across Pakistan. “Clearly, Pakistan is desperate to show their presence in India, but we will not allow such activities on the soil of Jammu and Kashmir”, Singh said.
Police officials said he was linked to the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) group, which also carried out the deadly Mumbai attack that left 166 Indians and foreigners dead.
Two BSF jawans and a militant were also killed in the attack.
The captured terrorist presented a unusual picture before television cameras smiling a few times and answering questions calmly telling reporters, “it’s fun doing this”. Khan was killed in retaliatory fire by BSF.
“They were looking for something else and it was a chance that BSF happened to pass from there and they attacked it, ” he added.
Congratulating the security forces, senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad said catching a terrorist alive was a huge achievement. Sources say the National Investigation Agency (NIA) will also be present when the terrorist is interrogated, NDTV reported. He added that 16 Pakistani terrorist modules were active in Jammu and Kashmir.
While one of the militants involved in the attack was killed, the other was captured by local people and police.
He was part of a militant gang that attacked the Border Security Force convoy killing two troopers and injuring 11 on the Jammu-Srinagar highway in Udhampur district earlier in the morning. “On behalf of this august House, I take this opportunity to extend our heartfelt condolences to the families of the martyred BSF personnel and our sympathies to those injured in this mindless act of violence”, he said.
