An initial report issued by the Farnborough-based Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) on Friday (August 6) has given the first indication of what happened during the doomed plane’s final approach.
The Saudi-registered Phenom 300 jet, built in 2010, was attempting to land at Blackbushe Airport when it crashed on to dozens of cars and burst into flames.
The four dead were the pilot and three members of a family, which media reports suggest may have been linked to the Bin Laden family.
The aircraft’s traffic collision avoidance system (TCAS) indicated that the aircraft was “clear of conflict” and it continued its approach.
It then began “a very high-speed descent”, dropping at up to 3,000ft per minute.
Tyre marks suggested the plane landed just 349m before the end of the declared landing area and 438m before the end of the paved surface – when it required 616m.
“The aircraft became airborne again briefly, before colliding with several cars parked at an adjacent business and coming to rest approximately 70 metres beyond the earth bank”.
North East Hampshire coroner, Andrew Bradley, opened and adjourned an inquest into the deaths this morning, with preliminary post mortem tests showing the four people died from the “effects of fire”.
