Apple spends $700000 a year to keep Tim Cook safe
Although the Company does not consider it to be a perquisite for his benefit, the Company provides home and personal security for Mr Cook because his personal safety and security are of the utmost importance to the Company and its shareholders.
Not quite a million bucks, according to a recent filing.
In the real world the most action security is going to get is peeling adoring fanboys from Cook at one of Apple’s rallies.
This amount represents: (i) the Company’s contributions to Mr. Cook’s account under its 401(k) plan in the amount of $15,600; (ii) Company-paid term life insurance premiums in the amount of $2,520; (iii) vacation cash-out in the amount of $56,923; and (iv) security expenses in the amount of $699,133.
Equilar tracks executive compensation, and says Amazon paid out $1.6 million that year on security for Jeff Bezos. So, I guess it’s working?
The information is pretty interesting but it would be even better if we knew how much other companies are spending on security for their higher-ups. In 2014, Cook came out and wrote an op-ed on Bloomberg Businessweek admitting he was gay. He was Steve Jobs’ second-in command for the longest time and used to assume the role of the CEO whenever Jobs went on medical leaves. After all Apple is a bit like Hydra if you kill one head two more will grow back. Earlier this year, Apple became the first U.S. company to be valued at more than $700 billion.
