Amy Schumer joins Sen. Chuck Schumer to fight gun violence
Schumer was teaming up with her cousin, US Democratic senator Chuck Schumer, at a New York press conference pushing for greater background checks on people purchasing guns, CNN reports.
Sen. Schumer emphasized that his bill, which would also create penalties for states that fail to submit records to the database, is about improving the background check system, not putting new restrictions on buyers. Carrots money. It’s not going to cost state governments to do this.
“The critics scoff and say, ‘Well, there’s no way to stop insane people from doing insane things, ‘ but they’re wrong”, Amy Schumer added.
For Amy Schumer, the subject of gun violence and mass shootings became “extremely personal” last month, when John Russell Houser opened fire in a movie theater in Lafayette during a screening of her film “Trainwreck”, killing two people and injuring nine others.
As Amy Schumer rose to stardom, it was considered a humorous background detail that she was related to a sitting U.S. Senator. In a sketch that first aired in May, the actress’ character finds it far more hard to obtain birth control than it is for a boy to acquire a gun.
The comic, who has broached political points in her comedic routines earlier than, stated, “I’m anticipating a backlash” for advocating for gun management. “I’ve had death threats and a lot of hate directed toward me”.
In ironic but perhaps very intentional timing, Schumer will get another platform later on August 3 on her home turf of Comedy Central, as a guest on The Daily Show. The plan would call for Congress continue funding programs that help people with mental health issues and drug abuse.
She added, “These are my first public comments on the issue of gun violence, but I can promise you they won’t be my last”.
Amy went on to send a tweet in the wake of the Lafayette theater shooting. “And I have thought about these victims each day since the tragedy”.
I got about a million emails from friends telling me it could’ve been any movie – I’m trying to believe that, but I’m not sure.
“I personally feel that the country is ready for this”, said McCarthy.
In her letter, Clements wrote that she wants to shut down ideologies that contribute to the harassment of women online, as well as combat “anti-feminism and anti-women ideals, the over-idolization of firearms and fetishization of what they stand for, and the easy access to guns”.
