Aircraft seats and window panes found on Reunion island
Najib’s televised statement was not universally welcomed by relatives of the 239 people on board the jet, with some expressing scepticism and fresh criticism of officials’ handling of the disaster.
Malaysia’s Transport Ministry said Thursday that more plane parts have washed up on the same remote French island as a wing part that is believed – with varying degrees of certainty – to be from missing Malaysia Airlines Flight 370.
About two-thirds of the passengers were from China, and in the Chinese capital, Xu Jinghong said she could not understand why Malaysian and French authorities did not make their announcement together.
Tensions between the families of MH370 passengers, mostly Chinese, and the Malaysian government have long plagued the search of the missing plane, which was last heard of in March 2014.
His remarks came a day after Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak in a late last night announcement said that a team of worldwide investigators had confirmed in France that the piece of wreckage was from MH370.
Local authorities on Reunion have said they will begin a detailed search of the coastline from Monday.
Yesterday, Malaysia said paint colour and a maintenance seal were matches for MH370, the first piece of direct evidence that it had crashed in the sea.
“One piece is unlikely to be to important as to causation”, Alexander said. Dai Shuqin, the sister of one of the passengers, was among about a dozen Chinese relatives who held a demonstration outside Malaysia Airlines’ offices in Beijing.
Just a few hours after Najib’s confirmation, the coordination center issued a statement saying that it will await further details from the French-led investigation team that is continuing to finalize its investigation of the debris.
The Australians are in charge of the underwater search for Flight 370 in the eastern Indian Ocean, thousands of miles from Reunion.
“We want test results to be announced by a government official not a corporate representative”, he said.
“France is being cautious about it, but Malaysia is desperate to put an end to this case and run away from all responsibilities”, she said.
Frustrated by seemingly mixed messages from the Malaysian and French governments over whether debris definitely linked to the missing Boeing 777, the 50-strong group attempted to gain entry to the building to demand an explanation from officials.
They would probably then “do a full physical examination, using ultrasonic analysis before they open it up to see if there’s any internal damage”, Weber said.
Relatives of the passengers of Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 weep in front of the media in Beijing.
Investigators had analyzed the wing fragment, known as a flaperon, at a laboratory in Toulouse, France.
