Malaysia confirms swing part found on Reunion Island part of missing MH370
“Our records show that it’s the same as MH370”.
Prime Minister Tony Abbott said that search would continue as “we owe it to the hundreds of millions of people who use our skies”.
They have struggled with a desire for closure while holding onto slim hopes that those on board might be alive, and have strongly criticized Malaysia’s handling of the disaster.
“I would like to assure all those affected by this tragedy that the government of Malaysia is committed to do everything within our means to find out the truth of what happened”, he said.
Mr Liow said on Thursday that differences with other countries amounted to “a choice of words”.
Debris found on the remote French island of Reunion a week ago — a wing part known as a flaperon — was the first possible physical trace of the aircraft.
Malaysia should consider the feelings of the families of passengers on the tragic flight and better explain latest developments to them, he said.
But French authorities haven’t gone that far.
Malaysia Airlines said in a statement that relatives of the passengers and crew “have already been informed and we extend our deepest sympathies to those affected”.
Yesterday window panes and seat cushions were found on the island.
“I can only ascertain that it’s plane debris”, Liow said. Officials believed it crashed in the southern Indian Ocean, killing all 239 people aboard, but it is unknown why the plane went down.
Paris prosecutor Serge Mackowiak said this was based on technical data supplied by both the manufacturer and airline but gave no indication that experts had discovered a serial number or unique markings that would put the link beyond doubt. This was confirmed in a statement made by Malaysia’s Prime Minister Najib Razak.
“Of course there is still some i’s not dotted and t’s not crossed”.
But numerous relatives of the Chinese vicitms say they’re not happy with the answers they’ve been given by the Airline.
A woman in New Zealand whose brother was on the plane asks, “Why not wait and get everybody on the same page so the families don’t need to go through this turmoil?”
Several relatives have expressed distress and demanded more thorough information since debris from a Boeing 777, the model used by the flight, washed up on the French island of Reunion last week. “I only believe the French government”, said Li Yuehua, whose 29-year-old daughter Li Wenbo was aboard the aircraft.
Emotional relatives of those aboard doomed Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 said they hoped the first proof that it crashed will help finally solve the agonising mystery, but many also expressed anger and disbelief.

But other officials were less confident about the origin of the flaperon.
That search, which began in October, has covered nearly half that area without finding any clues.
Foreign Minister Julie Bishop who was in Kuala Lumpur also said Australia is committed to continuing the search for MH370. Bao Lanfang, whose grandson was on board, said: “Everyone has been lying to us”, before collapsing on the floor and crying.
The two-meter-long piece of wreckage was found July 29 on Reunion, east of Madagascar, and sent to Toulouse, France, for analysis the following day.
The discovery of debris on La Reunion is consistent with where we are now searching.
“A CASA aircraft will fly over the area [Friday] morning”.
