Amy Schumer partners with other Schumer to push gun-control legislation

In her letter to Schumer, Sarah Clements referenced media speculation that Houser may have specifically targeted the ribald comedy, due to a hatred of women.

“These are not extreme ideas, and what Chuck is describing, they’re sensible measures and restrictions and no one wants to live in a country where a felon, the mentally ill or other risky people can get their hands on a gun with such ease”, said Schumer.

Senator Chuck Schumer and his cousin, comedian Amy Schumer, just presented a new plan for reducing gun violence in America.

Amy delivered an emotional speech with her cousin, Chuck, by her side to lament the events in Lafayette, Louisiana, where a crazed gunman shot eleven people, killing two, at the Grand 16 movie theater.

“My heart goes out to Jillian and Mayci, to the survivors, to the families, and everyone who was tied to the tragic, senseless, and horrifying actions of this man who shouldn’t have been able to put his hands on a gun in the first place”, a visibly upset Amy said.

Schumer was teaming up with her cousin, US Democratic senator Chuck Schumer, at a New York press conference pushing for greater background checks on people purchasing guns, CNN reports.

Alongside his call for improving the national background check system, Schumer also said the Department of Justice should study involuntary commitment standards and issue recommendations to states on preventing the mentally ill from obtaining guns. The bill would give money to states that submit all the necessary records into the federal background check system, and penalize states that do not.

Third, Schumer and Schumer called on Congress to fully fund mental health and substance abuse programs.

“I’ve thought about these victims each day since the tragedy”, she said. In response, Schumer had tweeted, “Don’t worry I’m on it. You’ll see”.

Police said 59-year-old John Russel Houser legally bought the.40-caliber semiautomatic handgun from a pawn shop which he used to kill two young women and wound nine other people.
