SC judge in Yakub case gets death threat, security stepped up
A case has been registered by the Delhi police who started investigating the letter.
Sources close to the development said, “He went to the embassy to apply for a working visa but was detained after the embassy found his behaviour odd”.
The police also denied intercepting any phone call from Mushtaq alias Tiger Memon to the Memon residence in Mahim on the day of the execution, during which Tiger is reported to have promised to avenge his brother’s death. “We have increased the security cover of Misra’s residence”.
Soon after the execution of Yakub Memon, security for all the three judges namely, Misra, Amitav Roy and Prafulla Pant was beefed up following a threat perception.
When the first mercy petition was rejected on 11.04.2014, there was sufficient time available to the petitioner to make arrangement for his family members to meet him in prison and make necessary worldly arrangements. They said the threat to Misra is of a “very serious nature” and have so far ruled out that someone may have played a prank by sending the anonymous letter. As per the judgement Yakub Memon was hanged at Nagpur Central Prison on July 30th at 7 am, the hour set by the TADA court for execution of his death warrant. “Anti-terror security drill has been carried out in entire New Delhi area”, an officer said.
In 1993, blasts in Mumbai has killed at least 257 people at separate landmarks in the financial capital, including the Bombay Stock Exchange and two crowded markets.Memom was convicted as the “Driving spirit” of the deadly attack in 2007. “Student leaders of the College wanted to honour the executioner for hanging Yakub Memon – the person accused in the Mumbai blast case”. According to reports, Tiger’s mother was earlier reluctant to speak to him but later came on the line. Police officers described it as a “note” written in Hindi in which the writer threatened to eliminate the judge despite his escalated security.
