BJP member questions J&K govt over raising of Pakistan flags
Most of them, however, are opposed to it. Some of the Congress leaders have taken the stand that they have no objection to it provided such a policy is implemented with retrospective effect when the BJP members were the ones who had prevented functioning of the two Houses.
Earlier in the day, the Zero Hour and Question Hour could not be taken up due to the protests, forcing the Chair to adjourn the House twice within minutes after it met.
While no business was transacted in the pre-lunch session, only six private member bills could be introduced post lunch, following which sharp exchanges broke out between Opposition and Treasury benches with the former insisting that no business was possible till the government met its demands and the latter opposing it.
Asked about the development, the deputy leader of Congress in RS Anand Sharma said the party issued the whip as a precaution since BJP had in the past slipped through certain legislative business in the other House, bypassing the Business Advisory Committee. It is now facing a similar situation as the main ruling party, with the opposition Congress not allowing any discussion in the House till its demand for resignation of External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje Scindia and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan is accepted.
“…this house has been in a stalemate and the government is unrelenting when it comes to finding a meaningful solution…” This is arrogance of the government.
“Unless the issues we have raised are addressed, there will be no discussion”, he said.
Sources in the Congress stated that there’s a view in the party that with a lot of the legislative enterprise of the Monsoon session but to be carried out due to the close to wash-out of the proceedings over protests towards senior BJP leaders caught in controversy, the federal government might attempt to push sure Bills amidst the din by means of supplementary agenda.
Chairman asked members not to shout slogans saying “this is unbecoming”.
The letter pointed out that the Congress MPs were disrupting the house despite the warnings.
When the House met at noon after the first adjournment, Chairman Hamid Ansari’s pleas for restoring order went unheeded. “We don’t need to teach rules” and adjourned the House till 1430 hours.
Agitating Congress members again indulged in slogan-shouting against the Modi government, like “End dictatorship, end Modishahi”.
