At issue: Trump’s comments on “CNN Tonight” about Fox News’ Megyn Kelly, who moderated a GOP presidential candidate debate Thursday night.
“As much as I do personally like Donald Trump, his comment about Megyn Kelly on CNN is a bridge too far for me“, organizer Erick Erickson said in a post late Friday night.
“While Mr. Trump resonates with a lot of people with his bluntness, including me to a degree, there are just real lines of decency a person running for president should not cross”.
According to an email obtained by the Associated Press, Mr Stone wrote to Mr Trump, “The current controversies involving personalities and provocative media fights have reached such a high volume that it has distracted attention from your platform and overwhelmed your core message”.
On Saturday morning, Trump used Twitter to attempt a clarification of his remark.
“There was blood coming out of her eyes, blood coming out of her whatever.”
Former New York Gov. George Pataki tweeted Friday night that the remarks amounted to a “sad but predictable meltdown from Trump”.
The falling-out marked the first major break with Trump from a key figure in the mainstream conservative movement.
“Your decision is the right one“, he told Erickson.
A variety of Republican presidential candidates have been speaking at the Red State gathering in Atlanta and Trump was scheduled for a prominent appearance.
Trump maintained that “only a deviant” would interpret his comments that way, and calling Erickson a “total loser“. The backlash to his exchange with Kelly has threatened to knock the wheels off the bandwagon of support that had Trump leading early polls in the race for the Republican nomination for the 2016 election. “No. Excuse.” Lindsey Graham criticized Trump too, while other Republican candidates were more circumspect.
Fiorina added in a follow-up tweet: “I stand with @megynkelly“.
Long Story Short Donald Trump has been dropped from a Conservative event after he said a really dumb comment about Fox News’s Megan Kelly. “Enough already with Mr Trump”. Instead, the GOP hopefuls were sharp, fired-up, and focused, even as the embarrassments of the latest Trump controversy threatened to overshadow it all.
In two tweets signed “SW” – indicating they were penned by Scott Walker himself – the Wisconsin governor also backed Kelly. “I just think that’s crap”. When he asked Trump’s campaign to clarify the comment, he told the press he wasn’t satisfied with their response.
“And honestly Megyn, if you don’t like it, I’m sorry”, Trump said.
“I always thought Donald Trump was a little crude, but, more importantly, he’s not a good Republican”, Forte said.
Trump slammed Kelly, saying her questions were “ridiculous” and “off-base”.
In a remark which has outraged fellow politicians and the public, Trump appeared to imply that the newsreader was only questioning him over his perceived misogyny because she was menstruating.
