Black Lives Matter Activists Commandeer Sanders Speech In Seattle
A “Social Security Works” rally held at Westlake Park was interrupted Saturday afternoon when Black Lives Matter protestors jumped the stage and refused to leave. He quickly moved to the side, signaling for the event organizer to defuse the situation. “It’s your decision.” The sound feed of the microphone was then cut out while the protesters argued with organizers. Sanders had a huge crowd at the first event who were obviously there to see and hear him and were disgruntled when he was denied the chance to speak. Natives and non-Natives during the 20-minute countdown expressed reasons why they were interested in Sanders. Finally, an agreement was reached which allowed them to speak for several minutes. The same omissions were on display at an Iowa Democratic Party annual dinner on July 17, when Sanders gave a compelling speech but made no reference to foreign affairs. Instead, he waved goodbye, left the stage with a raised fist salute and waded into the crowd. She also went on to talk about Seattle’s police problems.
Sanders, who visited Cuba last year, said he supports President Obama’s efforts to improve relations with Havana.
Black Lives Matter Seattle says, not necessarily, but the group also states that it isn’t happy with what it views as the passivity of Sanders and other white liberals.
The Brown shooting, in Ferguson, Missouri, involved a black man shot by a white cop in which both grand jury and Department of Justice investigations found the officer blameless.
The face-off represented the second time in the past month that Sanders has been confronted by Black Lives Matter activists in a high-profile setting. Could Taibbi please tell me exactly how many Republican presidential candidates have been forced off the stage of their own rallies? “Black lives do matter”. They shouted, “We are reasonable!” This willful passivity while claiming solidarity with the #BlackLivesMatter movement in an effort to be relevant is over. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., left, smiles as he greets a supporter as he wades into the crowd at a rally Saturday, August 8, 2015, in downtown Seattle. In a statement issued later, the BLM Seattle chapter said, “Presidential candidates will not win Black votes without putting out an explicit criminal justice reform package”. Lines have been drawn in the sand. We need millions of people coming together to take on the corporate interests and the billionaire class who have so much power today.
