Obama defends nuclear deal to youth in Iran, Israel
The Islamist fanatics who rule Iran might actually welcome a nuclear exchange with Israel. And the alternative of not reaching an agreement, you know what it is?
Schumer’s announcement last week roiled the congressional debate over Iran, and upset the momentum in support of the deal that the Obama administration has been able to build among Democrats. Obama has promised to veto a rejection of his plan, and overriding a veto would require an estimated 15 Democratic senators to abandon the President. I couldn’t disagree more.
“This is one of the most important decisions any congressman can make”.
(CNN)As President Barack Obama vacations in Martha’s Vineyard, the fate of his legacy-sealing Iran nuclear deal may be on the line in Israel, where a large contingent of House Democrats wrapped up a weeklong trip of meetings on Monday with officials strongly opposed to the deal.
The Institute for Science and worldwide Security, however, issued a fresh analysis of the situation, saying in a statement, “Commercial satellite imagery does not support the Iranian explanation”. Smearing critics is even less effective. I hope you will consider my position and do what you can to communicate with your representatives in Washington by asking them to reject this deal. “If President Obama doesn’t like the rhetoric, then he should stop being the world’s leading global financier of radical Islamic terrorism”.
“Just because Iranian hard-liners chant “Death to America” does not mean that that’s what all Iranians believe”, Obama told students and faculty at the university. “They’re making common cause with the Republican caucus”.
Emblematic of all this – and what has prompted me to write – was the treatment of Sen. Presumably, if Schumer were planning an all-out opposition campaign, he’d start by convincing his fellow New Yorker.
An official at a second progressive Jewish organization, who spoke anonymously to protect his group’s relationship with the White House, described Obama as having punched “below the belt” in his rhetoric opposing the deal. Reasonable people can and do disagree. In an August 5 op-ed (“Iran and Obama vs. the States”), Sarah Steelman wonders whether President Obama can lift the sanctions under the Supremacy Clause of the U.S. Constitution. This one was no exception.
Among the steps under discussion are developing a ballistic missile defense capability, expediting arms transfers, special forces training, maritime and cyber security programs and a significant boost in intelligence sharing, Kerry said.
“Congress’s legal right to these documents creates a corresponding legal obligation for your administration to provide them for our review”.
The ultimate fate of the agreement, which includes Britain, France, Russia, China and Germany and is backed by the United Nations, remains unclear.
“Restrictions should have been put in place limiting how Iran could use its new resources”, Schumer said.
