‘I Certainly Will Not Apologize for Doing Good Journalism’
WASHINGTON (AP) Donald Trump said Monday he never intended to say anything inappropriate about Fox News Channel’s Megyn Kelly and said the uproar over his criticism is “all fueled by the press”. “I said nothing wrong”, he said, adding that someone would have to be a “deviant” to think he had meant what was being implied.
The clash came when Megyn Kelly grilled Donald Trump over offensive language he had previously used to describe women. The tweets Kelly referred to called women “fat“, “dog” and “disgusting”.
Fifty-four percent of Trump supporters said they would vote for him for president, even if he didn’t win the GOP nomination. As Gossip Cop previously reported, “Celebrity Apprentice” victor Piers Morgan is also standing by Trump, while fellow victor Arsenio Hall has said Trump’s recent actions have made him feel less proud of winning his NBC competition.
“As far as I’m concerned, I’m fine with it”, Trump said in a freewheeling, 30-minute interview with CNN’s “New Day” when asked about the flap after concluding his interview with Fox.
Clinton largely mocked Trump, saying she’s sure Kelly can defend herself.
A truce has been struck between Donald Trump and Fox News, as both parties chose to avert a path that could have threatened the summer ratings blockbuster the real estate mogul’s presidential campaign has become. Trump accused Kelly of asking unfair questions during last week’s presidential debate, including a particularly charged inquiry that featured her confronting Trump with disparaging remarks he’s made about women. That’s why he is leading in the polls.
Following a campaign event in New Hampshire on Monday, Clinton laughed at Trump’s assertion that she had “no choice” but to attend.
“I’m very much into the whole thing of helping people and helping women”, he said on CBS’s “Face the Nation“. “I’ve had such an fantastic relationship with women in business”. “I thought what [Trump] said was offensive and I certainly think that it deserves the kind of reaction that it’s getting from so many others but I think if we focus on that we’re making a mistake”. “I will be coming out with some policy on that”.
Ailes apparently felt he needed to address the push back from Trump fans. Instead, he said the American people were winners because they had an opportunity to see candidates with diverse backgrounds answer questions and spell out their vision for the future.
