Bomb Explodes at Sabon Gari Market in Borno

Sabon Gari village is settlement along Damboa – Biu road and is 50 kilometers away from Biu, the largest town in southern part of Borno State.

Boko Haram has killed thousands of people during a six-year armed campaign to set up an Islamic state in northeastern Nigeria.

Ibrahim said not less than 217 people displaced by the Boko Haram insurgency are staying in his house in Damaturu, the Yobe State capital.

A device planted at the market in the village of Sabon Gari along the Maiduguri-Damboa-Biu highway exploded at about 1:30 p.m. and injured at least 25 people, said Abdul Mohammed, a member of a pro-government militia group.

Witnesses said the sect opened fire on commercial vehicles conveying travellers who unknowingly drove into their ambush.

“Four of the passengers were shot dead by Boko Haram while two others who fled the ambush sustained injuries partly from gunshots,” said the military source, who did not want to be named.

“When we heard of the ambush… we mobilised our men to go to the scene but unfortunately we saw four people already dead”, he said.

According to a Reuters tally, more than 600 people have been killed in raids and bombings by the insurgents since President Muhammadu Buhari took office on May 29, promising to crush the group.

While there was no prompt case of obligation, Islamic activists from the Boko Haram gathering have been rebuked for scores of assaults in the district this year.

The fight against the terror group has escalated recently, with Nigeria’s neighbors, Chad, Cameroon and Niger, joining in the fight.
