An Apple Exec Is Trying to Get in Your Shower
That line of thinking bodes well for shower head start-up Nebia, which managed to solicit funding from Apple’s chief executive Tim Cook.
Meet Nebia, the new startup on Kickstarter with an innovative $399 shower head that aims to save up to 70 percent water every time you take a bath.
This means more water comes into contact with your body, leaving your skin clean and hydrated. However, this head looks very well engineered, with multiple nozzles designed using the kind of software used to study jet engines to produce the efficient mist.
The Nebia shower, which claims to save water and energy compared to standard shower technology, has more than 2,700 backers and support from Silicon Valley bosses, including Apple CEO Tim Cook and Google chairman Eric Schmidt.
The video also talks about average Americans using roughly 20 gallons of water while taking eight minutes of shower. Airbnb cofounder Joe Gebbia said “your shower will never be the same”, and Y-Combinator president Sam Altman called it the “best shower of my life”.
Apart from the good bathing experience, the report also shows that installing a Nebia Showere is easy-peesy as no plumber is required to install it. The shower head is made from a high-density polymer and moves up to 45 degrees. “Get excited!” Apple noted that Cook’s funding towards the Nebia was a personal investment, but declined to comment further on the matter. He’s the British entrepreneur that co-founder ailing social network Bebo.
Equinox Gyms, Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) and Stanford University already tested them and gave their approval. Since the Nebia retails at $400, the company says you’d earn back that cost in water savings over the course of two years. Provided it works out well, the product is expected to hit the markets by May, 2016 and the price per shower head may range around $400.
While regular shower nozzles produce a straight stream of water with large droplets, the Nebia’s atomising feature produces 100s of tiny droplets dispersed into precise patterns.
