Apple boosts diversity by hiring over 11000 women

In general, the workforces at tech firms are dominated by male, white and Asian employees – something that has attracted the attention of advocates like the Rev. Jesse Jackson.
To be fair Apple is trying to do something about it, so the Tame Apple Press is talking up that.
“In the past year we hired over 11,000 women globally, which is 65% more than in the previous year”, Cook said on Thursday.
Apple said it has hired more women, blacks and Latinos over the past year than at any time in its history, though the company remains overwhelmingly white and male.
Apple hiring policies have started their long-expected road to normality, but the company is still lacking when it comes to employee diversity. The numbers certainly don’t show it.
Apple had 92,600 full-time staff as of September 2014. “Women and under-represented minorities will continue to play a greater role as consumers, influencers, creators and leaders”.
In another diversity report, hardware manufacturer Intel has also posted better than expected numbers in this regard, claiming that 43 per cent of its total US hires in the last 12 months have been either women or minorities.
Women fill 15.7 percent of senior level positions at Intel, which represents an 11 percent increase over last year, according to Hudnell. Hispanic and Black employees stayed fixed from last year, as did those who describe themselves as multiracial or “other”.
CEO, Tim Cook while writing about the firm’s diversity report said, “Some people will read this page and see our progress, others will recognize how much farther we have to go”.
Intel also has a US$125m goal to invest in diverse entrepreneurs and so far this year has made four investments at US$17m and has identified two more that will be revealed later in the year. I believe the next innovation in tech PR must be human-focused, only then will we see a cultural renaissance that will result in truly fantastic technological accomplishments fueled by human innovation.
Jackson additionally cited Hewlett-Packard for taking steps that tackle considerations about company boards in Silicon Valley, which are likely to have few women and minority members.
