Amir Khan says Floyd Mayweather is ruining legacy – victor Sports
I say “only” because when comparing how much money Rodgers is making over the course of several seasons to how much money Floyd Mayweather Jr. earned for fighting Manny Pacquiao in May, well, let’s just say it’s not much of a comparison.
The unbeaten American (48-0-0-KO26) beat Manny Pacquiao in May and claims he will fight for the final time on September 12 – naming Andre Berto and Karim Mayfield as the leading candidates for his ring farewell.
Amir Khan reckons Floyd Mayweather could destroy his legacy by refusing to fight him.
“Floyd says he thinks he needs an easy fight now because he’s proved himself by beating Pacquiao”. Mayweather wants to fight on September 12 and I’ll be ready for that date.
“They are not looking to fight a style like mine, because they know it’s going to be a tough fight”, he said.
The main difference is Pacquiao having to pay promoter Bob Arum and Top Rank a large fee, while Mayweather does not get saddled with that overhead because he owns his company. He needs to finish on a high. The thing is, there’s levels…It seems to me he’s going to be finishing off his career on a low. If it’d be so easy then why not do it?
Mayweather also offered De La Hoya a rematch after hearing the news that the latter has been recently contemplating a boxing comeback – a sign that Mayweather is running out of decent opponents, according to the Golden Boy. “He’s mentioned a few names but mine should’ve been in there because it’s a fight that the fans want and it’s a fight that would make big money”.
The unbeaten champion retires in September and Khan has been desperate to face him for two years.
Khan told RingCast.net that he is leaving the issue to Al Haymon, the boxing manager who advises both him and Mayweather.
Mayweather Sr.is “very anxious as well”, said Khan, if their recent conversation is anything to go by.
“He must definitely see me as a unsafe opponent if he doesn’t want to fight me”, Khan said.
