Michael Bloomberg: Iran deal is too important for politics
Thousands of people are expected to take part in dozens of marches in cities across the globe Saturday in support of Iran’s deal with world powers over its controversial nuclear programme.
Earlier this month, Tester posted the agreement on his website and urged Montanans to read it through.
The Democrat says the agreement is based on intrusive inspections and aggressive monitoring. Graves said he’s not anxious, noting that he’s received multiple briefings in support of the Iran nuclear deal from top Obama administration officials, including Secretary of State John Kerry and Defense Secretary Ashton Carter. “For those skeptics who doubt whether Iran will hold up their end of this agreement, Congress should provide the president with the authority to use force if necessary”. He said it’s not built on trust and includes steps for verification.
The deal in hand may not be flawless – what agreement ever is? – but it’s far better than the alternatives.
Here’s the president from his American University speech: “Congressional rejection of this deal leaves any U.S. administration that is absolutely committed to preventing Iran from getting a nuclear weapon with one option – another war in the Middle East”.
In addition, Greenblatt pointed out that Iran has not changed its behavior, violating existing worldwide sanctions without fear.
Meanwhile, a new group “Veterans Against the Deal” launched an ad campaign featuring a wounded veteran, retired Staff Sergeant Robert Barlett. It would allow Iran to export oil but we can’t.
Where they are already very dicey and ready to say they have done their bit.
US President Barack Obama speaks to CNN on August 7, 2015 about the Iranian nuclear deal. “What do you think they’re going to do when they get more money?”
Critics, Newsweek says, argue the inspection system is weak and the time limits problematic. “In each case, I’ve asked: Are we better off with the agreement or without it?”
Saudi Arabia spent more than $80 billion on its military last year, trailing only the United States and China, according to the worldwide Institute for Strategic Studies.
“I have studied the details, listened to Ohioans on all sides of this issue, and consulted with nuclear experts”, Brown said in a statement Friday.
It’s not without precedent that Congress could send the nuclear deal back to negotiators under certain revisions. Does it roll it back forever? This agreement, from the beginning, has been about stopping Iran’s path to a nuclear weapon without having to go to war again. We have a specific provision in this agreement called “snapback” for the return of those sanctions in the event of noncompliance.
His endorsement follows that of his brother, Rep. Sander Levin, D-Royal Oak, and comes as the White House is working to convince Michigan’s two undecided senators, Debbie Stabenow of Lansing and Gary Peters of Bloomfield Township, to endorse the seven-nation deal.
