Man Trolls Bigots With Hilarious Fake Target Facebook Account
Target made headlines this week after announcing it would remove gender-based labels from some store sections such as toys, bedding and entertainment.
You’ve probably seen this story floating around the internet and your Facebook feed: Man Poses as Target on Facebook, Trolls Haters of Its Gender-Neutral Move With Epic Replies.
Melgaard created a fake account called “Ask ForHelp” that used a Target logo as its avatar, according to his Facebook page.
Mike Melgaard wasn’t actually involved with Target in any official capacity. It’s evident from some of the posts that people weren’t sure what the announcement meant, accusing Target of a wide range of politically correct capitulations and declaring their intention to now shop at Walmart. “After taking a look, I was literally laughing out loud at my computer”.
Facebook user Mike Melgaard witnessed the deluge of angry comments, and decided to lend the store some assistance – free of charge. Melgaard, who sounds like he’s in an Onion piece when he tells Adweek that he likes to “stir the pot”, immediately knew there’d be an opportunity to make fun of strangers on Facebook when he heard the news about Target.
Pretty much what you’ve come to expect from Target.
“At Target, we are committed to providing outstanding guest service to our guests wherever we engage with them – in our stores, online, or on social media”.
And I hope that in the future, more of us are inspired to use comic relief as a tool in battling intolerance of all kinds.
Not only was this a clear reference to Melgaard’s antics, but Melgaard himself responded in the comments-under his own profile-writing, “Target”.
Ask ForHelp was obviously not verified, but most people didn’t care, interacting with Melgaard and growing increasingly irate as he trolled their gender neutral hatin’ ways. It’s effective, and harmless, and we could all use a good laugh more often!
