Apple finally revamping its wireless mouse and keyboard
Included with every new iMac since 2009, Apple’s wireless Magic Mouse certainly has its lovers and haters, with the former comfortable with its low-profile design and array of multi-touch offerings, and the latter having ditched it long ago in favor of a more traditionally styled device from a third-party maker.
Patent documents for a Magic Mouse 2 and a revamped version of the keyboard have been filed with the FCC, according to 9to5Mac.
While typical accessory upgrades are admittedly ho-hum, Apple’s FCC filings do reveal something a bit unusual.
Bluetooth 4.2 is much faster, more secure, and power-efficient when compared to previous Bluetooth technologies.
Another interesting change pointed out in the filings is the possibility that these peripherals may eliminate the need for AA batteries and may come with built-in lithium-ion batteries which means users will no longer have to change batteries ever again.
Another welcome upgrade is the devices will be using the new Bluetooth 4.2 standard, where before they relied on the older Bluetooth 2.0.
It’s safe to say that we would like to see a new Magic Mouse and wireless keyboard, turns out Apple does have something in the works. Apple is scheduled to hold a media event to introduce the new iPhones, iPad mini, and Apple TV on September 9th, so one can expect the new accessories to be announced on that day.
