Wellington Silva: Arsenal winger joins Bolton Wanderers on loan
Arsenal youth forward Wellington Silva is close to a season-long loan at Bolton Wanderers of the second-division Championship, which would be his sixth different team since arriving at Arsenal in 2010. He received a work permit only last fall, and this is the first time he’s been eligible to play in an English league.
The American defender should gain global clearance today for his £1.75million switch to Craven Cottage, which would then release funds for Silva and Italian full-back Francesco Pisano.
Hertha Berlin have been left stunned at failing in a bid to take Wellington Silva on loan from Arsenal.
In December 2010 Silva was awarded one, but it was announced that the FA had backtracked on its initial decision to award Silva his “Special Talent Visa” and thus he was sent out on loan – one that started the chain of temporary spells away from the club after that.
Instead, the 22-year-old was loaned to Levante, Alcoyano, Ponferradina, Murcia and Almeria and has now been granted Spanish citizenship in order to move back to England.
Rio-born Silva has also represented Brazil at Under-17 level and played for them at the 2009 World Cup before stepping up to the Under-21s briefly previous year.
The 22-year old posted on his Instagram that he was grateful for the opportunity to ply his trade in England after spending the last four seasons out on loan in Spain.
