Ben Carson’s Phoenix Event Moves to Larger Venue

Ben Carson, in Phoenix on Tuesday, is running third in the Republican race.

The CNN survey comes after polls in Iowa and New Hampshire show Trump leading in those two states in the wake of the August 6 debate and the businessman’s highly publicized dispute with Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly.

The Tuesday event in Arizona was set to be at Grace Community Church, which holds 2,300 people, but his campaign had to change venues to a room at the Phoenix Convention Center that can hold 6,000 people, The Arizona Republic reported.

“Rounding up 11 million people and deporting them, you know it may sound good to some people, but that’s not pragmatic”, the retired neurosurgeon told listeners.

“We’re borrowing money from China in order to give it to Pakistan”, he said.

Speaking on the eve of the candidate’s planned tour of the southern border, Carson tackled immigration, touching on unsubstantiated claims that terrorists will cross American borders and announced his support for eliminating birthright citizenship, saying “it doesn’t make any sense to me”.

In his speech, Carson emphasized tougher security along all of the nation’s borders.

Carson said one of his solutions to the immigration problem would be employing a guest-worker program that requires those workers to pay taxes, as well as a back-tax penalty.
