Group protests outside Portland Planned Parenthood
The demonstration was part of a National Day of Protest taking place at Planned Parenthood offices in 300 cities across the United States, including here in Denver.
Planned Parenthood volunteer greeter Kaylee Wolfe said Saturday’s protest used similar rhetoric to ones she has witnessed in the past. Most of our health centers are located in rural or underserved areas, meaning that for many of our patients, Planned Parenthood will be the only provider they see all year along.
“Those are very powerful”, protest organizer Bob Dunn said of videos showing workers handling aborted fetus tissue and negotiating the sale of tissue to activists posing as employees for a medical research company.
Protesters will gather outside at almost 320 Planned Parenthood clinics across the country to call for cutting off the organization’s federal funding and – eventually – shutting it down.

Despite Planned Parenthood’s controversial methods and procedures, the clinics do provide education on STD prevention along with a number of health screenings for women who are uninsured such as early detection of breast, ovarian and cervical cancer. They are calling on lawmakers to stop funding the organization.
Spokesmen for Planned Parenthood have said the videos were edited and are not accurate, and that the agency does not sell fetal tissue. “There’s different facilities across the nation for good health care without women having to get an abortion”.
“If you’re Christian, this is an organization that is encouraging people to violate five out of the 10 Commandments”, Yagley said. “Planned Parenthood does not honor women and it doesn’t have respect for human life in the womb”, McClufor explained. The opposing groups lined up across the street from one another in a two hour peaceful protest.
“Extremists who oppose Planned Parenthood’s mission and services are making outrageous and completely false claims”.
