Donald Trump to hold town hall meeting in Alabama
The cable networks repeatedly trumpeted that Donald Trump and Jeb Bush were holding dueling town hall meetings in New Hampshire, about 20 miles apart.
“Give me a different term”, Trump said. Those aren’t Jeb Bush’s people to begin with. For him to get things done is hard. But the likelihood of that happening is very low.
But the former Florida governor’s refusal to outrightly condemn some of the darker episodes of his brother’s tenure – such as the use of waterboarding by the Central Intelligence Agency – has been touted by his detractors as “proof” that to elect him would be to re-instill his brother’s approach to foreign policy. “You can’t doubt his passion”.
Curiously, Trump responded to a reporter Wednesday in almost the exact same fashion Bush did. “The problem is that the people writing Jeb’s speeches are the same people who were involved in the Iraq war”, said one Republican strategist.
If the conventional wisdom is right, many Republican voters are enjoying their Trump flirtation, but will get more serious as the caucuses and primaries to select an actual commander-in-chief draw closer. The memo, titled “Suggested Messaging Dos and Don’ts of Immigration Reform”, aimed to offer alternatives to the “negative and harsh rhetoric that has hurt conservatives in the past”.
Bush, meanwhile, criticized Trump’s immigration platform, arguing that it’s “not a conservative plan” because it would cost tens of billions of dollars to carry out. “This is going to be my pitch: Let’s support someone who you don’t have to guess where he stands because he’s consistent, because he’s been governor he’s consistently had the views that he has”.
“During a press conference today, Jeb Bush tried to outdo Donald Trump and other Republican presidential candidates by doubling down on the hateful term “anchor baby” when referring to the U.S. born children of immigrants“, Praeli said. According to Greg Chen, director of the American Lawyers Association, she writes, “The only thing that a so-called anchor baby can do to assist either of their undocumented parents involves such a long game that it’s not a practical immigration strategy”. “OK”, Bush told reporters. Fox even dipped into Jeb’s appearance for a couple of minutes, but broke away when Trump started speaking. “It’s time they all take it to him without playing his game”. Now, in New Hampshire Trump says that he believes Bush and other candidates are going to spend huge amounts of money to tear him down. “And every time a shot is fired they run?” See as many nonprofits or groups as possible and make his presence felt.
Two more points on this. Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker did the same over in Barrington, while Carly Fiorina – the former Hewlett-Packard executive also rising in the polls – convened a give-and-take with voters in Laconia. “He has to answer the awkward question of what happened on his brother’s watch, and Hillary has to answer the awkward question of what happened on her watch”.
“Ultimately, they are people”.
“Is that a contradiction?” “I didn’t use it as my own language”. “I don’t, regret it!”
When a reporter took issue with Jeb Bush’s use of “anchor baby”, Bush testily replied, “You give me a better term and I’ll use it”.
“Common sense will tell you that this is not a fight we want to have again”, Christie said.
“Do you have a better term?” Bush would surely rather not have a debate over the term “anchor babies”, where he’s coming under fire for using the same term as Trump, while holding the opposite position.
