Trudeau says he will restore lifetime pensions for injured veterans
Originally planned as an all-leaders debate to be held in Toronto and broadcast nationally, Up for Debate had to turn to Plan B once it became clear that neither Conservative Leader Stephen Harper nor NDP Leader Tom Mulcair would attend, essentially dooming the event. To achieve this goal, the NDP will re-establish the Police Officer Recruitment Fund that was cancelled by Stephen Harper, with a $250 million investment over the next four fiscal-years, followed by permanent ongoing funding of $100 million annually.
Stephen Harper is in Drummondville, Que. where he is repeating his message that his government is the best bet in uncertain economic times.
Speaking Tuesday near Hamilton, Ontario, Mulcair – who polls have shown to be regularly out-pacing Trudeau as Harper’s top rival – distanced himself from the Liberal leader by committing to balancing the 2016-2017 budget.
The new format will see leaders from the New Democratic Party, the Liberal Party of Canada, the Green Party of Canada and the Bloc Québécois sit down for pre-recorded interviews on women’s issues. Still, it’s interesting that while the NDP talks about change [in general], these guys [the Liberals] talk about real change.
Elizabeth May’s Green Party was dead last, with only 4 per cent support.
Mulcair spent the day touting his plan to cut the small business tax rate from 11% to 9%, which he said would be fully implemented in the first two years of an NDP government as a job-creation tool. “We have been reminded over the past weeks that we have a prime minister and a government that serves itself when it ought to be serving Canadians”. Justin Trudeau, who Canadian women’s only issue with is his insistence on wearing clothes to debates, (swoooon) of course fully intended on joining the debate. All he needs is one chair and a mirror. You know what? Most wealthy people work hard and are some of the biggest donors to hospitals and charities in Canada.
“I look ahead to working with Kathleen Wynne and each different provincial premier once we type authorities on October. 19”, the NDP chief advised reporters in Toronto on Monday.
He blamed Harper for manufacturing job losses and a less diversified economy.
Martin, who served almost a decade as Liberal finance minister, praised Trudeau’s team of candidates that includes Scott Brison, John McCallum, Chrystia Freeland, Jean-Yves Duclos, Bill Morneau and Ralph Goodale, who he described as “the last Canadian finance minister to ever run a surplus”.
“If I earn the right to serve this country as your prime minister, no veteran will be forced to fight their own government for the support and compensation that they have earned”, the Liberal leader said to applause from about 300 people at the Quinte Sports and Wellness Centre.
