Mesut Ozil: ‘I must be more selfish in front of goal’
Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil says his Germany team-mate Bastian Schweinsteiger needs time to settle down in the English Premier League but will make the difference for Manchester United.
Arsenal midfielder and record signing Mesut Ozil admits he needs to become “more selfish” if he is to find the back of the net more consistently this season.
“
I think now and then I need to become a bit more selfish”,
he said, “then I’d definitely score more goals”.
His third season at Arsenal could arguably be Ozil’s best at the Emirates, with him having suffered after the World Cup last summer – after helping Germany to global glory – but finding himself free of any such distractions this time around.
While praising the way the club has managed its spending in comparison to their rivals and yet have still remained competitive, Neville suggested that Wenger has either been arrogant or naive to think that he can win a Premier League title with the way he has built this squad and continues to do so.
“[Özil and Alexis Sanches] Good players, fantastic players but I don’t think Özil has ever taken responsibility for his teammates”, Neville said on Monday Night Football show on Sky Sports.
Neville was complimentary of Arsenal and Arsene Wenger for the most part, but did criticise the Frenchman for the type of players that he has brought in over the last 10 years or so.
“That’s most crucial for us and as I said, for me it’s not just goals and assists that mean everything, what’s more important is that we’re successful as a team”. However four games into the new season Ozil is yet to add to his tally of 12 goals for Wenger’s side.
